This is simply a single PDF file of the catalog. It is in black and white (no color), and it is not searchable. The table of contents is clickable, which is good, so you can click to your country of interest. A bit disappointed. The publisher has missed a tremendous opportunity to create a usable tool for active banknote collectors and traders.

Another decent catalog. Its pretty useful, but I still can't give 5 stars because it's all in black and white, and some of the pictures are a little hard to make out. As I said with the other volume, it would be nice if they split this up into a few different books, and printed it in color. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for something that was printed in that way.

I also found a lot of entries in this catalog that didn't have pictures, which was somewhat frustrating.

Michael Berry takes an innovative look at the representation of six specific historical traumas in modern Chinese history: the Musha Incident (1930); the Rape of Nanjing (1937-38); the February 28 Incident (1947); the Cultural Revolution (1966-76); Tiananmen Square (1989); and the Handover of Hong Kong (1997). He identifies two primary modes of restaging historical violence: centripetal trauma, or violence inflicted from the outside that inspires a reexamination of the Chinese nation, and centrifugal trauma, which, originating from within, inspires traumatic narratives that are projected out onto a transnational vision of global dreams and, sometimes, nightmares.

These modes allow Berry to connect portrayals of mass violence to ideas of modernity and the nation. He also illuminates the relationship between historical atrocity on a national scale and the pain experienced by the individual; the function of film and literature as historical testimony; the intersection between politics and art, history and memory; and the particular advantages of modern media, which have found new means of narrating the burden of historical violence.

As Chinese artists began to probe previously taboo aspects of their nation's history in the final decades of the twentieth century, they created texts that prefigured, echoed, or subverted social, political, and cultural trends. A History of Pain acknowledges the far-reaching influence of this art and addresses its profound role in shaping the public imagination and conception-as well as misconception-of modern Chinese history.

Truly extraordinary!

How rare is it for us to be party to a first hand account of a western woman navigating the difficulties of living and working in a Muslim country, let alone a country that has been the unwilling victim of neo imperialism for much of the last half century! Then....when you add the corruption and greed that the author is forced to deal with, it's hard to believe she made it out alive! MJ Greene does an excellent job of bringing the realities of her day to day struggles to these pages and allows us to become part of her very private sentimental journey of discovery. The book is an excellent introduction into what it might be like for anyone of us to navigate this harsh and unforgiving but at the same time incredibly addicting environment. Often this type of first hand account is told from the point of view of a male soldier...an experience not all of us can relate to. MJ Greene gives us the opportunity to appreciate her plight in a much more personal way. I look forward to reading her second book and applaud her for her honesty and integrity....it's a story not to be missed.

One woman's story about inner resilience and courage

The book entitled “A Conflict of Interest” authored by M J Greene, first copyrighted 2013 falls, in this reviewer’s opinion, under the category of a combination of biography/autobiography/memoirs. While the subject matter of the book describes the daily goings-on of various multinational organizations within Afghanistan, it is also tells the story from the author’s – a single Australian woman’s – perspective as she assumes the role of General Manager of a NATO subcontractor.

As stated in the preface of the book, the author’s intent in writing the book was to empower all women everywhere to stand up for themselves, to trust their intuition, and to fight for the truth.

Truth be told, this book opened my eyes to how different other cultures around the globe truly are. Simply speaking - my knowledge of Afghanistan prior to reading this book was that it was as the author mentions in the preface, “a war zone”. Prior to reading this book, I must admit I thought little about the everyday happenings that occur in other parts of the world for even though this area of our globe might be considered a “war zone”, the fact remains that there is more to Afghanistan than war and turmoil. Individuals not part of the actual fighting meaning - innocent civilians, businessmen and women and so many others still have to wake each morning and go about their duties be they policemen, homemakers, bakers, office workers, subcontractors or whatever. For the most part, I would venture to say that many do not think of this when they think of war or wars going on in other parts of the world.

M J’s book and her story brought to light this fact and made me realize what people in other parts of the world are going through and how scary some of those situations must be. The book also brings to light how strong we must be to our own convictions and hold true to those beliefs. Another thing this book taught me was about friendship and trust. While it is true that we may have many friends and a few we would consider very good friends, true friendship, when in another part of the globe, is a must and can mean the difference between life and death.

I have always been fascinated in how other people live and survive (but up until now my fascination has been with people in the USA) and as a result, the description provided on the back cover (story of a single, blonde, Caucasian female as a GM for a subcontractor in war-torn Afghanistan) truly intrigued me. That being said, I am happy to report that my goal of expecting a good read was greatly exceeded. This book is a must for anyone interested in learning about how relying on one's inner resilience and courage can see you through so many things even such things as corruption, human rights violations and other discernible wrongdoing. In my humble opinion, a lot can be learned from reading this book and as such, I highly recommend this book.

This book gives a stunning exposition of the endemic corruption associated with our US and NATO effort in Afghanistan. It is a story of one person's effort to expose a large US government contractor, in its deliberate effort to sell alcohol in a Muslim country for the personal profit of the company senior executives. This action was detrimental to our war effort, putting another weapon in the hands of the Taliban. It is a gripping read, fast paced and reveals human rights abuses, directed towards women, indirectly funded by the US taxpayer. It is also a unique picture of a woman executive, that has the moral courage to stand up for what is right, at risk to her own safety and career. Tired of RPG/400, JCL and the like? Here's a ticket out

If you're seeking a book that will prepare you for a career as a web developer, this isn't what you're looking for. It's neither a programming tutorial nor a book on specific environments, such as .NET. However, if you're doing maintenance programming in, say, RPG/400 or writing JCL and are wondering how you can refactor your skills and get out of the mid-range and mainframe environment this book is ideal.
Solid programming skills are assumed (preferably in C or C++, but that isn't essential). You should have a basic understanding of databases and data structures. If you have these skills this book will systematically familiarize you with the web programming environment and common tools and programming languages that you'll need to master in order to transition out of the data center. I like the way the book touches all of the key knowledge areas, starting with HTML and going through javascript, perl and the usual cast of mark-up, scripting and programming languages. More importantly, this book doesn't skim the surface - it does into databases, XML and server-side development. If you've read the table of contents and are tempted to question why CGI was included in such a relatively new book, bear in mind that most of the information in this book is ideal for maintenance programmers, and there are literally thousands of systems that still employ CGI scripts. This also reinforces my opinion about who will benefit most from this book - maintenance programmers from mid-range and mainframe environments.
In a nutshell, you bring your knowledge of algorithms, data structures and development methodologies, and the book will show you how to apply them to web programming.
